Adafruit PiCowbell Camera Breakout - 120 Degree Low Distortion

Adafruit PiCowbell Camera Breakout - 120 Degree Low Distortion

The Adafruit PiCowbell Camera Breakout pairs a 5-megapixel OV5640 camera sensor with a 120-degree low-distortion wide-angle lens for your Raspberry Pi Pico or Pico W. Capture raw RGB images for analysis or use the built-in JPEG encoding to save photos to SD card or upload to the cloud.

The RP2040's fast PIO interface handles the 8-bit parallel (DVP) camera data, with an onboard 16 MHz oscillator providing the required clock signal. A micro SD card slot and shutter button are included, plus a STEMMA QT port for I2C accessories.

Key Features

  • OV5640 Sensor – 5 megapixel with JPEG encoding
  • 120° Wide Angle – Low-distortion lens
  • Micro SD Slot – Store images directly
  • Shutter Button – GPIO 22
  • STEMMA QT Port – I2C expansion on GPIO 4/5
  • Reset Button – Easy restart
  • 16 MHz XClock – Onboard oscillator

Pinout

  • Camera: GPIO 0-14 (VSync, HSync, PCLK, data, reset, power down)
  • SD Card: GPIO 15-19 (SPI + detect)
  • Shutter: GPIO 22
  • I2C: GPIO 4/5

Package Contents

  • 1× PiCowbell Camera Breakout PCB
  • 1× OV5640 camera module (120° lens)
  • 2× 20-pin headers (requires soldering)
Note: Fixed focus (infinity). Raspberry Pi Pico not included. Consider using a PiCowbell Doubler or stacking headers for easier assembly.
